Neighborhood Greening Initiatives

On Saturday November 17th 2018, over 70 volunteers met at the old Bosley Jail to participate the last Tree Planting event of 2018. The Volunteers would be planting 18 trees during the morning with 11 of those Trees planted on the grounds of the Delegate office.

The organizers and volunteers were welcomed at the Delegate North America office, (which is in the Old Bosley Jail,) with a Breakfast of Bagels, Doughnuts and Hot Drinks (Provided by Delegate) to warm them up before the Tree Planting began.

With Organizers and Volunteers full and warm from the Breakfast, Delegate North America’s Managing Director David Edwards who is also on the board of directors for Southland Hills Improvement Association, officially welcomed the volunteers.

Then the team from Blue Water Baltimore (Blue Water Baltimore is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to restore the quality of Baltimore’s rivers, streams and Harbor to foster a healthy environment, a strong economy, and thriving communities.

We work toward a future when our streams, rivers and Harbor are healthy, thriving ecosystems that are accessible and safe for citizens, visitors and commerce. To achieve these goals, we monitor the Baltimore area waterways for pollution. We organize trash cleanups, plant trees on public land, and provide green infrastructure to reduce storm water runoff. We advocate for stronger laws for clean water, both locally and statewide,) demonstrated how to plant a tree, before assigning the volunteers to groups and the locations they would be working.

Everyone got stuck in and within a couple of hours all the trees were planted and everyone headed to the grounds of the YMCA to partake in a buffet Lunch.

This is the 6th year that this event, in conjunction with Blue Water Baltimore has taken place, with 47 trees planted in the immediate neighborhood and over 500 Trees planted in the course of the program during the 2018.
